Wood or Aluminum Leg Tables: Both mediums are a good choice. Some people prefer wood and others like the brushed aluminum look and the higher strength to weight ratio factor. Aluminum is a powerful conductor of energy and is used in some very special energy healing tools. Wood offers that warm natural feel. We only offer aluminum tables that are made with high strength tubular aircraft aluminum legs. They offer the fastest and most convenient push button height adjusment available. The best quality wooden tables are by Oakworks and Earthlite, the best aluminum tables are by Astralite, Oakworks and Earthlite.

Table Strength: All tables are strong enough for Swedish massage. If the table must hold you and your client, we recommend Astralite's Lumina or Quasar, Oakworks The Boss, Wellspring or Advanta.

Table Height and Width: All portable tables adjust in height. For Swedish massage choose a 29" to 31" width. The 29" table is easier to transport and setup. The 30-31" table offers more room for client comfort and arm support. Push button telescoping aluminum legs are the easiest and fastest height adjustment system in the industry. Oakworks and Earthlite have easy leg adjustments on their wooden tables.

Foam Thickness and Layers: Multi-layer foam is more comfortable and recommended for longer relaxing massages. Thinner, firmer foam is required for some modalities. Most tables can be orderd with extra thick foam. A firm table with extra width and length is often preferred for Somatic and Feldenkrais modalities.

Travel and Portability: Ease of setup and weight are important for travel. All Astra-Lite, Oakworks, Earthlite and Stronglite tables set up in seconds and have light tables to choose from. The Aurora by Oakworks is the lightest wooden table at 25-29 pounds. Tubular aircraft aluminum tables are the lightest and strongest in the industry. Astralite makes several: The Taurus, Mercury, Venus, Pulsar, Star-Lite and Lumina III are especially light tables. Weights vary from 19 pounds to 28 pounds depending on your choices of width, foam, vinyl and head cradle. Earthlite makes the Pegasus, which is 22 pounds in the smallest model (27"Wx 65"L) and larger sizes are slightly heavier. Oakworks has a full size aluminum frame table, the Wellspring that starts at 25 pounds and the Advanta contoured table that weighs just 23-25 pounds (this table is shorter at 69" rather than the standard 73").

Your Size: For most practitioners we recommend a 29-30" wide table for a variety of bodywork modalities. This will help reduce back strain and make transport and setup easier. It is also large enough to accomodate most bodies comfortably. If you do lots of outcalls you might consider a smaller width, since that makes it lighter and easier to travel. If you massage large people, get on the table with the client and don't mind a heavier table Astralite's Cosmos and Quasar (33.75"Wx 73"L) are for you. The Oakworks Wellspring is also avail. in 31"Width with a very strong 550 pound dynamic load, working weight. The BOSS is extra stong and great for sport events with its field feet.
